Got a query from a prospective student about group Discussions and personal Interview preparation for BITS MBA entrance scheduled later in the month around 27th, could reply him in brief; thought of sharing the same here.

GD preparation would be more of a continuous process and performance in GD's would in most cases reflect your grasp on varied topics and communication/leadership skills.

PI is on the other side a marketing exercise whereby we candidates are expected to present oureselves well & market ourselves thereby proving ourselves fit for pursuing MBA from BITS or rather fitter than others to win the end. Am sure, something out of the normal will be shooted, just handle things well. Hope it helps.

Placements for BITS MBA have happened twice and the second time, (current year pass-outs) are quite hit, for the R letter word, has hit people all around, apart from the fact that the BITS MBA brand is still new in eyes of the Industry; what's good is someone having an admit this year should be able to just get it a lot better. In fact maybe, its just the time you went for an MBA, and there are few features of the program here that make BITS really a good place for it.

The fundamental economic problem hovers around the notion of choice, is usually taught in economics starter courses, the prospective students may also be confronted with a choice and they must do an extensive research about the BITS MBA program and course structure and get in touch with students and alumni for more.

ADMISSION TO MBA AT BITS PILANI - Eligibilty, Details how to apply, Important Dates and examination

Admissions to MBA at BITS Pilani for the academic term starting august 2009 has been released now . Its certainly a very wise decision to invest 2 years in a techno MBA degree at BITS pilani in times like this. Since the programme limits its input normally to only BE BTech and a separate test is conducted for it, the eligible applicants might have a great chance of getting an admit.

Specializations offered:

1. Engineering & Technology Management

2. IT enabled Services Management

Academic Flexibilty: Students can take electives of Marketing and finance, the specialisations are hence quite flexible as well.

Full program duration: 2 years; 4 semesters of 6 months each; this year classes start 1^st august 2009

Unique features: Focus on techno management advantage and half an year of industry exposure/internships in last semester

Eligibility: Any integrated first degree of BITS or only B.E./B.Tech degree in Engineering disciplines from any other recognized University with a minimum of 60% aggregate in the qualifying examination (CGPA can be converted to equivalent % 7.5/10= 75%). Both freshers(results by 25^th july 2009) and experienced candidates can apply.

Details of online Test: total 4 hours, Test I and II & Management Aptitude test

Test I: Duration: 60 Minutes. Total No of questions: 60

15 questions each from

1. Core Mathematics

2. Core Physics

3. English Language Skills & Principles of Management

4. Computer Programming

Test II: Duration: 120 Minutes. Total number of questions: 100

Includes questions from your chosen subjects, candidate to choose subjects of his first degree (for list of courses download syllabus here )

Management Aptitude Test: Duration: 60 Minutes Total number of Questions: 48

For Management Aptitude test each question will have five answer choices, only one being the correct choice. Each correct answer fetches 4 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark.

Syllabus for Management Aptitude Test

The Management Aptitude Test will consist of sections related to Mathematics and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Data Sufficiency and Verbal Ability.

1> Mathematics and Data Interpretation: It tests the quantitative reasoning ability. Problem-solving questions present multiple-choice problems in arithmetic, basic algebra, and elementary geometry. The task is to solve the problems and choose the correct answer from among five answer choices.

2> Logical Reasoning: It tests the student’s competency on deductive logic and whether he can deduct logically conclusion based on the premise/s.

3> Data Sufficiency: This tests the quantitative reasoning ability using a peculiar set of directions. The student is given a question with two associated statements that provide information that might be useful in answering the question. The student then must determine whether either statement alone is sufficient to answer the question; whether both are needed to answer the question; or whether there is not enough information given to answer the question.

4> Verbal Ability: It tests the students on their competence in English language both in terms of vocabulary, grammar and verbal reasoning.

MBA @ BITS Pilani, the beginnning and the change, And an outlook about an investment really promising!

This follows the post “Let us see how we have changed since inception”

Let me introduce myself, I am Nirupam, 4^th year BE Civil, MBA Dual (5 years), so that means I was admitted to BITS in the year 2005 (the year when BITS started BITSAT), We were admitted to Master of Management Studies (MMS) programme and took a transfer to MBA when BITS Management Department re introduced its MBA degree in 2006. I hence have had the opportunity to overlook the programme since its conception and would like to summarize its metamorphosis;

In 2006, when the first admission notification was released, we got a few online queries about it and we were ourselves not sure, what it was going to be like, We finally came to know that we were allowed a transfer to MBA and would be doing a Dual degree of engineering and MBA in 5 years. We had the opportunity to meet the 15 member batch of MBA 2006, and we came to know that they had come through the BITS higher degree online test and subsequent interviews at pilani. They told us that the two specializations were in Engg and Tech Mgmt and IT enabled services Mgmt, but the flexibilty would allow them to pursue electives of their interest (which in its true meaning holds true, the set of electives I have attended are Project Appraisal, Marketing research, Strategic Financial Management, Financial Engineering, and Security Analysis and portfolio Management)

The courses and electives have evolved over the three batches of MBA and Marketing research, Financial engineering, Risk Managemnt and Insurance, Enterprise Resource Planning, Strategic financial Management, Project Appraisal have all been conducted in a very unique way, depicting the BITS Pilani excellence as a rich pool of faculty from Economics and Finance Group, Management Group, and across other disciplines at BITS have been collectively involved in the design/conduct of MBA curriculum. The special focus on courses like Negotiation skills, Business and society and strategic management also sets the BITS MBA education model apart from others.

The Admission procedure has also gone a change where the online tests are now conducted at centers across the country unlike the previous model where they were conducted only in Pilani. The intake has also steadily increased and this year 2009, should be around 60. With the advantage of a strong Alumni network, and unique practice shool program, BITS MBA is set to achieve its own niche in near future.

The placements are what we have monitored over 4 years, When MMS programme was there (for three decades), the MMS students were well placed and some of notable alumni of MMS are in top executive positions across the globe. The first MBA batch was meagerly placed from first phase of campus recruitments, for obvious reasons that it was BITS MBA’s first batch, but the Practice school programme in the last semester of MBA curriculum helped them get good positions in MNC’s and they are all well placed now. The second batch made a good attempt by reaching out to Industries with a very well drafted BITS MBA Brochure and we all expected things to improve in a big way for BITS MBA placements bu they were hit by current market sentiments; they are all currently at Industries doing their practice school and trying to find opportunities for them which we hope will definitely come by either in form of offers from their Internship firm or elsewhere only because, we know they are good! The batch of 2010 has started its endeavours for placements and hopefully, things would be in place from now on.

About the 2 year golden investment (1.5 in academia and 0.5 in industry): The BITS MBA students come through a good entrance, get a unique model of education in the finest academic environments at Pilani and a great deal of exposure by organizing and manging events; benefit a lot from the happenings and activities at BITS, get a chance of guest lectures and workshops from the best in the Industry and academia, and get hands on exposure to the Industry as a part of their program. The placements have to kick start and am sure once they do it would be one of the most sought after programs, The Admission notification for Batch of 2011 is about to be released and it’s a golden opportunity for all to invest their two years to change the way they think and shape their life, because of not so hyped publicity, it might just be easier for the new batch to get into and the returns from this investment will surely be titanic as by 2011, definitely placements, (the only one thing that could raise qualms of this program as of now) shall go a way ahead.

How to reach Pilani:
Pilani is located 200 km west of Delhi and 220 km north of Jaipur.
Direct buses to Pilani are frequently available from Delhi (ISBT, Kashmiri Gate). There are frequent buses to Pilani starting from around 4:55 AM to 10:00 PM.
From Jaipur: (RSRTC Bus Stand, Sindhi Camp). There are frequent buses to Pilani starting from around 4:00 AM till mid-night.
It takes about 4 hours by taxi and 6 hours by bus from both of these two cities to reach Pilani.
The campus is very close to pilani bus stand.

I had not wanted such a long break. But then this is a new experience and its going to take some discipline and dedication. I was caught in a dilema. I wanted to appear bright and right in what I posted here. But a while ago it dawned on me the purpose of my experiment with this medium is not to impress any one including myself. Purpose is simply to prise open the door just a bit for a dialogue to start and then let the dialogue olay out its own dynamic and develop a shared understanding and meaning. So I will feel more fulfilled if I can just push in any direction whenever it is getting stalled.
I am talking about MBA programme at BITS in another blog as some students have taken the initiative to set the ball rolling. So here I will start with BITSAA. BITS is nearly 70 years old if we include Birla Engg. College, Science and Art colleges which were amalgamated to create BITS with first intake in July 65. So today the alumni strength is quite substantial but only a fraction of them are registered with BITSAA. May be that situation needs rectification. First a drive to locate all unregisterd alumni and secondly may be institute a mechanism by which every passing
out BITSIAN of all campuses are automatically registered with BITSAA. I would include in this Distance Learning Programme. All ex faculty also automatically gets the membership.
We need to substantially upgrade BITSAA central office substantially to play more active role and for that structure and funding model has to be thought of. BITSAA Pilani should be able to play an active role in connecting BITSAA chapters spread all over the world with each other.
World's major and leading universities have substantiall benifited from material and intellectual munificense of alumni. Today BITS alumni have the numbers and also by and large so placed in life to be able to fulfill such a role. Yes BITS must also take a more proactive approach to tap the resource of BITSAA. For alumni it is a fulfilling opportunity to give back meaningfully. We can give back in ways that suit us most as everyones circumstances will be different but no matter what is my circumstance there is a way for me to participate. I do have some ideas on the subject and I will reserve those for the moment and will share as we talk. I hope we have an active dialogue.

We from Campus can tell you a few things...
The tests and interviews after shortlisting the candidates were held only in pilani only,
from this year onwards, it is proposed to have it in 16 centers across the country, so that should be some good news for someone working/studying in Bangalore/Gurgaon, as these could possibly be test centers now.
If you are an admission aspirant for BITS-MBA and are currently working for any firm, you have more chances of getting in here, why?
Many experienced students came in last year, so might be indicative that experienced ones are preferred during interviews!!
The big advantage of BITS MBA is the cost of education... IIM's now task you 11 lakhs ... Just find out on the above MBA admission page..how much does BITS.
MBA was started in Pilani in 1965, Changed to Master of Management Studies and revamped again, but Management Education has continued and developed, So dear Fella's IT'S NOT AN ANOTHER NEW MBA COLLEGE

Hi Guys!( It is not meant to be sexist. It includes all Gals and Guys, Straight and Gays )
This is Sudheer Thaakur. You guys also knew me as Shorty during 1965-70 when I was here. I still retain Shorty as part of my core identity and I will be talking as Shorty.
I have returned to BITS Pilani in Decc 07 to teach. Immediate provocation was 2 by pass surgeries that I underwent in 2007.
Life at BITS as a member of faculty is just as cool if not cooler as for students. I have course load of 1 course which even for a total novice is manageable. And plenty of time to read, may be think - may be because thinking truly is very tiring. And I am now taking up this new interest. Purpose is to create a dialogue along 2 distinct threads. One is broad base and institutionalise engagement- material, temporal and emotional of Alumni with BITS and its evolution. The second thread is evolution of content and pedagogy at BITS. But in this thread initially perhaps I want to focus on MBA programme here as I am member of the Management group. For old timers we no longer have Deptts but instead Groups. In the presnt structure Group is the basic unit of Departmentalisation of all activities academic and support. There is another level of aggregation at level of Divisions and each Division is lead by a Dean.
